Michael Fassbender is very busy. And that's a good thing.

By MizzBlitz

One of our favorite actors right now is Michael Fassbender, who has been wowing international audiences with his varied performances in FISH TANK, THE DEVIL’S WHORE, Francois Ozon’s ANGEL, HUNGER, and Quentin Tarantino’s INGLORIOUS BASTERDS.

This weekend, his newest film hits theaters: CENTURION, an intense, violent historical tale of Roman soldiers lost in the wilds of early AD Northern Britian, struggling to survive against fierce local warriors. Fassbender holds his own during brutal battle scenes that any fan of GLADIATOR, 300, or SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND will enjoy immensely.

But for us ladies in the audience, some of Fassbender’s future projects hold much more promise to thrill and entertain. Let’s take a look at what is coming up for this smart, intense, German-by-way-of-Irish actor…

Michael Fassbender and Dominic West, who share the screen in CENTURION, previously appeared together in the powerful 2008 UK television miniseries THE DEVIL'S WHORE.

COMIC-CON 2010: the SONS OF ANARCHY and IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA panels

Unfortunately for us SAMCRO hoodlums of the world, the FX network and the Comic-Con Powers That Be chose to cram two different FX shows, SONS OF ANARCHY and IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA into a single hour of con programming — and the IASIP panel also included the surprise screening of an entire new fall episode, which was great, but LONG.

Because of this both panels were regrettably short, with precious little time for in-depth discussions or fan questions. Nevertheless, for a first time appearance at the con, Gemma and her boys from the bike club did just fine and had some terrific moments. Hopefully these folks will be back at SDCC, or at the Paley Center, again soon to give us more. Meanwhile I see by my twitter feed that many journalists are now receiving screener DVDs of the season three premiere, and are over the bike shop about it… Season three of SONS OF ANARCHY premieres on FX September 7th.

Here’s the new season trailer, hot off the presses from SDCC:

There is written coverage of these two FX panels over at HitFix, Futon Critic, AV Club, Collider, The Live Feed, and UGO. Our three part video of the entire SoA panel, and two parter for IASIP, is below.

A few things I really enjoyed durings SONS: the new Season 3 trailer above (which got a big cheer), a hilarious fan question about THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, Ron Perlman showing big love for his Mercedes over his bike, Katey Sagal confirming Gemma will be massively BAD-ASS this season, and Kurt Sutter revealing that we will see a bit more backstory for Gemma and John this year, with plans in future seasons to reveal a lot more about what happened between Gemma, John, and Clay.

Keep reading under the cut for full panel videos for both SONS OF ANARCHY and IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA.

COMIC-CON 2010: the GLEE panel

by ProgGrrl

Michael Ausiello welcomes the GLEE kids to his EW studio at SDCC

The GLEE panel today was a bit shorter than many fans would have liked, due to Fox’s mystifying decision to show 20 minutes of show clips beforehand. Nevertheless, fun was had by all. The panel was surprisingly deep and often serious, but everyone had plenty to say, especially show creator Ryan Murphy, who talked quite a bit about what is coming in season 2 — including a Rocky Horror Picture Show themed episode of all things! (Btw on the SIMPSONS panel earlier in the weekend, Matt Groening said the cast of GLEE will be visiting the show this season too.)

Guests on the panel were executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, and castmembers Chris Colfer, Jenna Ushkowitz, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, Heather Morris, and Naya Rivera.

There is coverage of the panel at TV Squad, PopWatch, and BuddyTV — but nothing beats watching the panel itself, and guess what? We have a video of the entire panel below, in four parts. Enjoy!

Come under the cut for the rest of the video…

COMIC-CON 2010: Get Ready, Here It Comes

by ProgGrrl

The time has arrived my little nerdettes, and we are now just a day away from San Diego Comic Con (or as the twitter kids refer to it, #SDCC). The schedule has been out for over a week now, and I hope all of you who are attending have made your list and checked it twice. For the rest of you, there will be many ways to track what is going on at con — to start with why don’t you bookmark my twitter, my Comic-Con attendee twitter list, and The FemmeBot’s Delicious bookmark feed.

What follows is a run down of much of the SDCC stuff The FemmeBot will be tracking and I personally will be trying to attend and if possible videotape to share here in the coming weeks. I am a lone girl, wandering in the packed, sweaty smelly halls of the con, and can’t be everywhere at once. But this list below should give you an idea of where I will be camped out and what sorts of videos and news you can expect us to cover.

We are also going to try to Ustream a couple of panels this year on Friday. This is our Ustream channel. Bookmark it for use later…

Surely the most heartbreaking news for us here at The FemmeBot was discovering that all of our number one fanbroad priorities, the TRUE BLOOD, Joss Whedon, SPARTACUS, and BEING HUMAN panels, are all basically happening at the same time on Friday afternoon. A tough choice will have to be made. Oh the humanity! After recovering from a week-long malaise about this, which only got worse after realizing the ROBOT CHICKEN and ARCHER panels are also happening during that busy timeframe, a calm head prevails. Obviously, it has to be TRUE BLOOD and Joss this year.

In the rooms or not, The FemmeBot will certainly collect every bit of nifty news and video we can find about all the events we care about. Keep watching.

If you are looking for a complete list of all TRUE BLOOD related events at SDCC, see TrueBloodTV.

If you are looking for a list of all BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and CAPRICA related events, Galactica Sitrep has it.

Bix from Whedonesque has collected a massive list of everything Joss Whedon Universe related.

Keep reading down under for all the rest of the television, film, and comedy panels, the off-site events, promotional stunts, screenings, and autograph signings we are looking forward to at Comic-Con!

Drip... Drip... Drip... MAD MEN is coming...

A few more MAD MEN tidbits on the interwebs recently. Firstly, the above new poster design; is it just us, or does that look like Don is back in his old Sterling Cooper corner office room, only now it’s empty of furniture? Or is Don in another identical skyscraper, setting up his own business? Let us hope we find out sooner rather than later.

AMC has refreshed their delightful “Mad Men Yourself” site from last year, adding new clothing, accessory and background options to promote season four. What a delicious timesuck!

TV Guide got to premiere a new video promo for season four which gives us some new interview bites with cast and Matthew Weiner, but does not give any glimpse of new show footage. Loving Christina Hendricks’ and Elizabeth Moss’ looks…and wondering just what Jon Slattery is getting at when he talks about characters making the same mistakes again this season…

Comic-Con Update: More Passes, Panels, Parties, and Guessing Games

While The Fangirl Nation awaits an official film and television panel announcement from San Diego Comic-Con headquarters that should be coming any day now, The FemmeBot has been rooting around the internet like a truffle-hunting boar…seeking nuggets of wisdom on your behalf. Today’s update includes new information about SPARTACUS, BEING HUMAN, GLEE, SONS OF ANARCHY, HARRY POTTER, SUCKER PUNCH, TRON: LEGACY, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, groovy Geek Girls on panels, and what we think we know about Joss Whedon and GAME OF THRONES.

Meanwhile, Comic-Con HQ just announced the other day that on Monday June 28 at 12pm Pacific Time, they are releasing additional con badges and hotel packages. So if you are feeling lucky and still want to go to this “sold-out” event, get ready to work that mouse.

Our flights are booked, our hotel is reserved. San Diego here we come…

BEING HUMAN: An Update On Both Versions

ETA June 24: Great news from the BBC this week – they are bringing the BEING HUMAN team to Comic-con and screening the season 2 premiere episode! More info here.

Toby Whithouse and his merry band are hard at work at this very moment shooting Season 3 of this intense and witty BBC genre drama over in England, while we Americans await the airing of Season 2 here in the states on BBC America beginning July 24th.

BBC keeps a terrific show production blog, and keep us happy with some tweets and twitpics now and then…but we US fans are never able to watch any of the videos in BBC’s UK-only player. Until now! Yes, BBC has thrown us all a bone and put this Season 3 behind-the-scene video on YouTube, shot during the first cast and crew script read-through of the new year:

Sorry girls… no Aidan today. Sigh.

Meanwhile, over at the SyFy network here in the USA, a few more details were recently announced about the American remake of the show, which will be a 12 episode season:

With an eye on a late spring production start and a 2011 premiere, the U.S. ‘Being Human’ currently has two scripts under its belt and outlines for another three, Syfy executive VP of development Mark Stern tells Fancast.

As far as casting the show, Stern says, “We’re not there yet.” He is, however, quick to shoot down a rumor that Syfy’s take on ‘Being Human’ will change the genders of any of its three main characters.
Rather, the U.S. adaptation will strive to retain much of what has made the original so spooktacular.
“The big challenge of this show is, How do you adapt it without it feeling ripped off?” says Stern. “How much do you take from the British version, and how much do you adapt on your own?”
Championed with finding that perfect balance are showrunners Jeremy Carver (’Supernatural’) and Anna Fricke (’Everwood’).

“Anna and Jeremy have done a really great job really finding their own voice while embodying the tone of the original show,” says Stern. As for the concern that an Americanized ‘Being Human’ will sanitize its inspiration’s trademark sensuality and gore, Stern responds, “We definitely plan on emulating the unique and edgy mix of humor, sexiness, and scary thrills that the UK version so perfectly captured.”

One last matter of business concerns the setting for Syfy’s ‘Being Human.’ Stern could not confirm talk that the show’s otherworldly roommates would make camp in Boston (versus, say, foggy San Francisco), though that region of the U.S. seems a likely bet.

“I love the East Coast – especially the Northeast, where you have that whole Salem Witch Trial [vibe],” explains Stern. “There’s a sense of history and the Old World that you just don’t get on the West Coast.”

As for Comic-Con, since the British crew is busy shooting season three this summer, that might be a good reason not to come over to San Diego, despite the 2nd season premiering here in the USA that very weekend.

ETA, June 20th: SFX Magazine just posted a brilliant and not-really-spoilery note they received this week from “Lord Toby” himself about what is to come in season 3. Hee.

Make sure to visit us here at The FemmeBot each week after the new BEING HUMAN episodes air this summer, read our thoughts and share your comments.

WEEDS and THE BIG C: made for each other

There is a hole in our TV-For-Grownups viewing calendar, now that Edie Falco and Toni Collete and their delightful shows NURSE JACKIE and THE UNITED STATES OF TARA have ended their second seasons. But fear not, dear readers! This August, it will fill again, when Showtime brings back Mary-Louise Parker and her crazy WEEDS family for their sixth season — along with a new show, THE BIG C, starring Laura Linney.

These shows seem to have a few things in common, as you can see from the new crossover promo.

Showtime has posted a teaser video for WEEDS, and a true trailer for THE BIG C, to give you a better idea of what these desperate housewives are all about.

WEEDS and THE BIG C premiere on Showtime, side-by-side, on Monday August 16th.

News You Can Use: A Little MAD MEN Update

MAD MEN’s new season four is still two months away (premiering on Sunday July 25)… but there are a few new bits of information trickling around the web that caught our attention. Matthew Weiner gave a relatively long interview to TV Guide and managed to pretty much say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the new season. But he did say it quite well, as usual. We always prefer Mr. Weiner’s post-show interviews, when he is happy to discuss what we’ve all just watched.

Roger Friedman has a few mild spoilers and some speculation about what is to come, along with his hopes for further MAD MEN Emmy glory. We need to start our season three rewatch soon.

A TRUE BLOOD fan applied AMC’s “Mad Men Yourself” stylings to some True Blood characters… with oddly awesome results.

Jon Hamm participated in the annual THR Emmy Roundtable video interview for the drama actor category this year. Yes, that’s right: Jon Hamm, Alexander Skarsgard (TRUE BLOOD), and Matthew Fox (LOST). All sitting together, giggling. Sigh.
